Philosophers and thinkers happen to be telling us for centuries how important moderation is. Aristotle told us, "All things in moderation." Buddha preached of just living the middle way, between the extremes. Mark Twain famously quipped, "Everything moderately, including moderation." Although, if reaching our highest potential lida daidaihua new actually comes through balance and not the extremes, why does moderation seem so foreign to us today?

I believe today's fitness industry is becoming symbolic of the word extreme -- extreme workouts and extreme diets to obtain extreme results. It's commonplace to meet the triathlete thirsting for brand new extreme challenges, your body builder starving for extreme definition, the yogi trying to find extreme poses and practices. These journeys can be incredibly inspiring, however in some cases, they may be the thing holding a person back from ultimate health. In fact, finding balance in your routine could be the very workout that solicits the greatest results.

A sports enthusiast myself, I have found that balancing an array of exercises and activities has benefitted me probably the most. Strength training fuels my muscles; yoga enhances my flexibility; basketball engages my mind and opens my playful, competitive side; and together, they assist cause me to feel a well-rounded athlete. If I invest in only one type of workout, I find that something else is inevitably neglected.

Imagine a seesaw. When one for reds becomes overweight, this means the other side isn't heavy enough. In other words, by becoming too extreme in one section of our way of life, we're surely neglecting another thing. When we become too centered on our physical selves, we may forget our emotional self. If we become too results driven, we might sacrifice health and safety. When we become too relaxed, we may never reach out full potential.

Balancing does not necessarily mean you need to involve yourself in multiple sports. You are able to balance your brain by working the right and left brain regularly. You can balance your body by stretching and strengthening targeted muscle groups. You can balance the soul if you take time to be both meditative and playful. There's a middle way for almost every facet of your life. Here are some important questions you should ask yourself when seeking balance:

What is my primary goal? This can be a time to get really honest on your own. Are you putting your health at risk to shed weight or build muscle? This is not uncommon. Some people become fixated on external goals of the size zero waistline or six-pack abs, which might require taking extreme measures. Avoid the mistake of thinking merely a toned midsection will make you healthier and happier instead of a balanced and stronger mind and body.

What are my extreme measures forcing me to neglect? Knowing your routine is actually extreme, then it's time to take a look at what's being sacrificed on the other side from the seesaw. Think about what you're committed to and how it honestly affects other parts of your lifetime. Ultimately, you may decide the greater extreme path, but understanding what could get sacrificed could be empowering and supply clarity for current and future desires and goals.
